FREQUENTLY ASKED QUESTIONS

HOW DO I SIGN UP FOR TRYOUTS?

Register for tryouts on our website. Tryouts cost $15 when you pre-register online, and $20 when you register online the day of tryouts. There is no paper-registration offered the day of tryouts and we do not accept cash or checks, so please register before you arrive.

WHAT SHOULD I BRING TO TRYOUTS?

All players should bring their soccer cleats, shin guards, a water bottle, an appropriately-sized soccer ball, and weather-appropriate training clothes. DO NOT wear any club gear, including Crossfire Select gear.

WHAT SHOULD I EXPECT AT TRYOUTS?

All players will be evaluated based on their technical, tactical, and physical abilities. Players should expect to attend a tryout for 90 minutes and will be put into small-sided games for assessment by coaches. Coaches will base their selections on player skill and ability demonstrated during the tryouts. Each player is assigned a numbered jersey to wear. Players are identified by that jersey number during the course of the tryouts, and that number will be used to identify players in the tryout results. It's critical to remember your assigned jersey number.

WHEN WILL RESULTS BE POSTED?

Results will be posted on our website on the Tuesday following tryouts, around 6 p.m. Results will usually be posted sooner for boys high school age tryouts.

IF A PLAYER IS SELECTED, HOW LONG DO THEY HAVE TO RESPOND?

We ask that every player that is trying out be ready to commit to the team upon receiving an offer, and no later than 24 hours after results are posted. This will speed up the process for everyone else in the age group. Acceptance of a roster spot is confirmed when you email the coach and when you register and pay the Club registration fee (not tryout fee).

DOES CROSSFIRE SELECT ENCOURAGE PLAYERS TO PLAY OTHER SPORTS?

Yes, we think all players should play other sports at a young age. Eventually they may choose one primary sport, but we do not require you to specialize in only soccer. But, soccer should be the first priority during the fall season.

WHAT IF I CAN'T ATTEND TRYOUTS?

Please contact Coaching Director: Hugo Alcaraz Cuellar Coachingdirector@crossfireselect.com.

DO I HAVE TO ATTEND BOTH DAYS OF TRYOUTS?

We ask that every player attend at least two tryouts. This gives the coaches and evaluators an opportunity to see players over a longer period of time and make a fair assessment of the player.

CAN PLAYERS BE ADDED TO THE ROSTER AFTER TRYOUTS?

Yes, players can be added to the roster throughout the year whenever a spot opens up.

DO RETURNING PLAYERS NEED TO TRYOUT?

Yes. All players must try out every year.

WHAT IF MY CHILD IS INJURED AT THE TIME OF TRYOUTS?

If you are injured and unable to compete fully at tryouts, you will need to register for tryouts and bring a note from your doctor detailing the injury, along with an estimate of when you can resume training. Players will then coordinate with club/team/coach a date when player can receive an opportunity to attend a team training session and be evaluated to be considered for a team. Injured players will be assigned a jersey number, and their injury will be noted on the tryout evaluator sheets.

I REGISTERED FOR TRYOUTS, BUT CANNOT MAKE IT. CAN I GET A REFUND?

Sorry, no refunds. As a non-profit organization we use our resources and a number of volunteers to make large events, like tryouts, a reality. The tryouts will likely still carry on without you, so we cannot issue refunds.
